CPWB Storm Drain Adoption Tool — Effective: May 2026

By using the CPWB Storm Drain Adoption Tool, you agree to the following terms. These are meant to keep everyone safe and set clear expectations — not to create legal red tape.

Participation is voluntary

You're a volunteer. You can adopt or release drains at any time, skip a check (or several), and stop participating whenever you like. There are no minimum commitments. We'll send reminders, but they're just reminders — not obligations.

You are not a town employee

Volunteers in this program are not employees, contractors, or agents of CPWB, the Town of Falmouth, or the Town of Mashpee. Your readings and reports are informational — they help the DPW prioritize maintenance, but they do not constitute an official town inspection.

Safety

Your safety comes first. By participating, you agree to:

  • Never attempt to remove, lift, or move a drain grate.
  • Never reach into, lean over, or enter an open drain.
  • Stay on sidewalks and road shoulders. Do not enter travel lanes.
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing when inspecting drains near roads.
  • Skip any drain that feels unsafe to access for any reason.
  • Wait for conditions to settle after heavy rain before inspecting drains.

CPWB is not responsible for injuries sustained while volunteering. You participate at your own risk.

Accurate reporting

Please submit readings that are as accurate as you can reasonably make them. It's fine to estimate — we're not looking for laboratory precision. But please don't submit fabricated readings, as the data feeds real maintenance decisions.

Photos

When you upload a photo with a measurement, you grant CPWB a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use the photo for program operations, reports to the DPW, and educational or promotional purposes. You retain ownership of your photos. We will not sell them.

Privacy

See our Privacy Policy for details on what data we collect and how we use it. The short version: we collect only what we need to run the program, we never sell your data, and we never share your identity with the towns.

Email communications

We'll send you:

  • Measurement reminders (about once a year, based on your adopted drains)
  • Program updates from CPWB (operational notices about the tool)
  • Optionally, CPWB news (events, fundraising, watershed updates — you choose during sign-up)

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also manage your preferences from your profile in the app.

Account deletion

You can request account deletion at any time by emailing info@protectwaquoitbay.org. We'll delete or anonymize your personal data within 14 days. Measurements you submitted may be retained as anonymous historical data.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the program evolves. We'll notify you by email of material changes. Continued use after notification constitutes acceptance.
